Balloons Frequently Asked Questions FAQ?

"It's not a party without balloons." Well, that's what my mother always said. And who was I to disagree. That's how we got into this. Balloons are like everything in the universe, they are a lot more complicated than they first appear. So we have tried to answer all the frequently asked question on this page, but if you still have questions please feel free to reach out to us.

Acceptance

By placing an order either through the website or over the phone, you accept the policies set forth in this document.

When should I order my balloons?

We recommend you order balloons as early as possible. This allows us to ensure we have the quantity of the balloons which suit your event are available.

Can I just come in on the day, order and collect straight away?

We always recommend preordering, however we are happy to accept walk-in orders.

Just be mindful that inflating walk-in balloons can be a third priority behind assisting customers find what they are after, and inflating and arranging pre ordered balloons.

Can I order balloons and pick them up on a different date?

Yes, this is what we recommend. We suggest pre-ordering 1 - 2 days prior to your event to ensure you get the exact products and then we can have them ready for you at collection time.

Do you inflate balloons that I have purchased elsewhere?

Yes, we will inflate balloons that you have purchased elsewhere.

However there are additional conditions that apply;

  • We do not guarantee the balloons suitability for the use with helium.
  • We do no guarantee the float time of the balloons.
  • We can refuse to inflate any balloon at our sole discretion.
  • Some products require specialist knowledge and skill, and not all our staff are experienced in every type of balloon that is available. We always suggest you bring the balloons in, so we can examine their suitability, considering the team member(s) who are rostered on the date and time you require them.

Do you deliver balloons?

Can I get same day delivery?

Yes, we can arrange same day delivery, Click here for further details.

Where do you deliver?

Our delivery area includes all the suburbs in the Canberra metropolitan areas including.

  • Belconnen
  • North Canberra
  • Central Canberra
  • South Canberra
  • Woden
  • Western
  • Tuggeranong
  • Gungahlin, and
  • Central Queanbeyan
  • Delivery may be available to Royalla and Googong but at additional charge.

What about deliveries interstate?

We can organise for un-inflated balloons to be sent via courier or Australia Post throughout Australia, however we are unable to arrange delivery of our helium inflated bouquets interstate at this stage.

What's the difference between “Shipping” and “Delivery”?

Inflated balloons require more specialised delivery. They are helium filled and require more care and space to arrive in a suitable condition. They are not suitable for postage or freight dispatch.

Just consider, Balloons are like children.

When do I have to pay for my balloon order?

All balloon orders must be paid in full before we commence inflation. This is because of the increase in the number of "No Shows". We apologise for any inconvenience.

Am I able to cancel my balloon order and get a refund?

Yes, balloons orders can be cancelled.

  • If the order is using our standard stock items, this can be done right up to us commencing the inflation process.
  • If we have commenced the process or your order has required special products, we will refund the difference between uninflated product and/or the cost of the product

How do I go about cancelling my balloon order?

To cancel you, will need to talk to one of our friendly staff and get a confirmation number. Keep this number handy until we have processed your refund.

PLEASE NOTE: Leaving a message on an answering machine or sending an email is not always received by the inflation studio in sufficient time.

If you are out of stock for the items I have ordered, what can we do?

You will be contacted by one of our lovely staff. They will to confirm whether we can restock from our supplier, or, if this cannot be achieved within your timeframe, they will advise you on how to cancel the order.

How long does shipping and delivery take?

We will endeavour to deliver your items as soon as possible, however, please allow up to 4 working days from the date payment is received by us. If you require your order by a particular date, please ensure we are aware of this requirement, so we can advise if that is possible.

How do we pay for the orders?

We have achieved different payment avenues. You can either pay by via

  • Mastercard, Visa, American Express or PayPal through the Website,
  • Mastercard or Visa over the phone
  • Direct Deposit, (Details provided on your order or invoice)
  • visit the store and pay cash
  • Cash on Delivery is not an option.

Am I able to buy products in bulk or by the cartons?

Yes. We are more than happy to sell by the cartons and the price will be at a wholesale price.

Balloons?

Balloon float Times

Balloon floatation times is dependent on so much. But a quick quide:

  • 11-inch latex balloons not treated with Hi-Float: 12 - 24 hours
  • 11-inch latex balloons treated with Hi-Float: 3 times longer
  • 16-inch latex balloons treated with Hi-Float: 3 times longer
  • 16-inch latex balloons not treated with Hi-Float: 30 hours
  • 18-inch foil (Mylar) balloons - 2 - 5 days
  • We hope this will help you when planning when you need to order, and to have your helium balloons delivered or collected.

    How long do helium balloons last and float for?

    As Helium molecules are some of the smallest molecules on earth, so it is a challenge to capture them and to keep them in one place. Helium molecules slowly escape through the porous skin of any balloon which is the reason that helium balloons go down eventually.

    We do however ensure that we keep those helium molecules inside our balloons for as long as possible by using only the best quality of helium materials, by using only high-quality pure helium gas and special balloon filling techniques by our qualified balloon technicians.

    Regular Latex Helium Balloons – float times

    how long do Helium latex balloons last and float for? Its a very good question. Hopefully this helps.

    Latex is a natural material which is much more porous than the foil used for foil balloons. Helium begins to seep out from the moment the balloon is inflated. Because of this latex balloons historically have had a reasonably short float time. This all changed, with the introduction of a product called Ultra Hi Float. Ultra Hi Float is a special liquid plastic which we use to coat the inside of all our latex balloons to help prevent the helium from escaping. All of our latex balloons that we inflate with helium are treated with Hi Float to ensure a maximum float time.

    For a standard 28cm (11") latex balloon you can expect a float time of between 12 to 24 hours, depending on conditions. The large 60.9cm (24") giant latex balloons can have float time of between 5 to 10 days when treated with Ultra Hi Float.

    We recommend inflating latex balloons with helium and having them delivered as close to the event as possible in order for them to look their best throughout the event

    To achieve these float times balloons must be kept indoors, in a climate controlled location, with the heater or air-conditioner running. These estimates are based on typical indoor conditions. Float times will be shorter outdoors. Float times vary greatly based on factors such as humidity, temperature, altitude, etc. Balloons typically float for half as long in hot, humid weather or if directly under a cold air conditioner.

    Confetti Filled Latex Helium Balloons – float times

    Confetti filled latex balloons look beautiful when inflated with helium. Regardless of whether you choose to have the confetti pool at the bottom of the balloon, or stuck to the wall of the balloon - the end result is equally as dazzling

    Confetti balloons are harder to keep afloat because of the extra weight of the confetti and also because using Hi Float in them is not possible. I.e. the confetti is “loose” in the balloon so it moves around and pools in the bottom of the balloon so you cannot put Hi Float in as it is a liquid gel and will cause the confetti to stick to the walls of the balloon with a messy glue like streaking.

    The smaller 28cm (11 Inch) Latex confetti balloons without Hi Float have a float time of around 8 to 10 hours.

    The larger 60cm (24 inch) or 90cm (36 inch) Latex confetti balloons without Hi Float have a float time of around two to three days.

    We recommend inflating latex balloons with helium and having them delivered as close to the event as possible in order for them to look their best throughout the event

    Foil Helium Balloons – float times

    Foil balloons float for longer periods of time compared to latex balloons when inflated with helium. Some of our customers have reported that their balloons stayed afloat for many days (sometimes weeks). Therefore we can inflate and deliver your foil balloons a day or two before your event.

    The main reason why foil balloons last for this long period of time is the material they are made of which is foil (mylar). Mylar is a lot less porous than latex so does not allow the small helium molecules to escape as quickly as with latex balloons.

    Float times vary between sizes and shapes of all balloons but the most common foil size is the 45cm (18") round or star shaped balloon, which can stay looking freshly inflated for around 5-7 days (sometimes they can last over two weeks)

    Therefore we can inflate and deliver your foil balloons a day or two before your event.

    To achieve these float times balloons must be kept indoors, in a climate controlled location, with the heater or air-conditioner running. These estimates are based on typical indoor conditions. Float times will be shorter outdoors. Float times vary greatly based on factors such as humidity, temperature, altitude, etc. Balloons typically float for half as long in hot, humid weather or if directly under a cold air conditioner.

    Why do foils float longer than latex Balloons?

    As we inflate latex balloons, we stretch the latex, which expands mircroscopic holes in the latex. Helium is a very small partical and as it moves around the balloon, and comes into contact with the sides of the balloon, some of the helium escapes. When we inflate foil balloons, we are filling the space between the two surfaces, and mylar has less ways for the gas to escape.

    DELIVERY POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

    Thank you for considering brightening the day with some of our balloons

    All our Balloon Deliveries require a window of between two (2) to four (4) hours at the delivery address, where somebody must be able to accept the arrangements.

    To qualify for delivery service, your order must include a minimum order of $49.95 inc GST, worth of balloons or products.

    Delivery Times

    Monday – Friday

    • Gift Bouquet – 9:30am – 5:00pm (4-hour window)
    • Larger Orders – 10:00 – 5:30pm (2-hour window)

    Saturday

    • Gift Bouquet – 9:00am – 9:30am or 3:00 – 5:00pm (4-hour window)
    • Larger Orders – 2:30 – 5:30pm (2-hour window)

    Timed Delivery Service — When Timing is Critical

    Our Timed Delivery Service has restricted availability. Considerations include:

    • Which day of the week?.
    • How big the order is?
    • What time of the day?
    • Time required to create the order?
    • What size vehicle we require?

    Ordering Deadlines

    Standard Delivery Service – Next Day

    • Online Orders Close 3:00pm
    • Phone Orders Close 5:30pm

    Same-day Service

    Same-day service is available but must be ordered via the phone.

    Last orders for same day delivery is 1:00pm.

    Same-day orders will be delivered by 5pm

    What type of Balloon Bouquet should I select?

    We present various options to best suit your requirement. Careful when ordering. Ensure you order what you require.

    Balloons Only - Most of our bouquets allow the purchase of the balloons only. Suitable for people who live in other locations or who happen to have access too Helium. These uninflated balloons are eligible for dispatch via our freight partner(s).

    Balloons with Inflation - If you are happy too collect you Helium Inflated balloons from our shop.

    Inflated Balloons with Delivery This includes standard delivery Monday to Friday.

    Balloon Releases

    We do not offer balloons for release and advise customers against performing a balloon release. Not only are balloon releases prohibited in many places, balloons that are released into the atmosphere may cause unnecessary litter and harm to the environment. We would love to help you find a safe and responsible alternative to balloon releases for your next event.

    Product and Service Complaints

    We will take prompt action to address service issues that are reported no later than 3 days after delivery. After this deadline no replacements, refunds, or credits will be issued. For us to provide a replacement or refund, we require that a photograph of balloons reported as defective be emailed to info@justclowningaround.com.au with a note providing the order number.

    Anonymous Deliveries

    We are unable to provide anonymous delivery service. In cases where a signature is not provided on the greeting card which accompanies an order, we will reveal the name of the sender to the recipient if requested.

    Residential Deliveries

    Because special procedures are required for residential deliveries, we are unable to provide surprise delivery service. Our balloons must be accepted by someone at the residence, in person. Balloons cannot be dropped off and left unattended, even if such a request is submitted with the order.

    Doorman Buildings

    Our local dispatcher may call the recipient to confirm that the doorman is capable of accepting and storing a large package.

    Homes and Non-Doorman Buildings

    We will call the residence and arrange a delivery time when someone is able to be at the residence to accept the order. For most orders, this call will be made by late morning on the delivery date or the day prior to delivery (with same-day orders, the call may be made later in the afternoon on the delivery date). If we are unable to reach someone by phone, we will leave a call-back number. We will not proceed until contact is made. The delivery arrival time will be contingent on when the recipient returns our call, and may be later than the order's posted deadline. If it becomes apparent that we will not be able to complete a delivery on the scheduled delivery date, because we were not successful in coordinating a delivery time, the customer will be contacted and may elect to cancel the order without a cancellation fee, or to reschedule the delivery for the following day without an additional charge.

    Special Delivery Times

    Whether or not the order is actually delivered during the selected time frame depends on the delivery time which is arranged during our telephone conversation with someone at the residence. The delivery time which is established during this call takes priority over the time frame posted on the order.

    Remembering that all deliveries require either a two (2) or four (4) hour window of delivery.

    If no one is available to accept the order

    If the afore mentioned procedures have been used and no one is available to accept a delivery when we arrive, the order will be returned to the Balloon Workshop, and the sender will be notified. In such cases an additional delivery charge will apply to complete the delivery. Undeliverable orders will not be refunded.

    Remembering that all deliveries require either a two (2) or four (4) hour window of delivery.

    School Deliveries to Students

    We welcome school deliveries if the school permits balloons to be delivered. Schools that permit balloon deliveries require that the balloons be held at the front office. Delivering to students in class is not permitted.

    Before placing your order, please contact the school and ensure that the order will be accepted by the front office. It is also important to confirm that the office will accept responsibility for advising the student that balloons are waiting for them at the front office.

    Some schools permit the delivery of only foil (mylar) balloons, due to latex allergies. Please check to see if this restriction is applicable before placing your order, and make your selection accordingly. We offer many mylar balloon arrangements for all occasions.

    University / Higher Education Deliveries to Students

    We welcome on-campus deliveries to college students, however,. Delivering to students in class is not permitted.

    Balloon deliveries are usually made to a central mail room, however, deliveries to dormitories can be made if the dormitory is open to the public and a receptionist can accept the order on the student's behalf.

    Please contact the institution to learn which location is best in your case. Provide us with as many delivery details as possible, including a cell number that will allow us to alert the student once we have completed the delivery. While we will attempt to contact the student, getting through can be a problem and is not a guaranteed part of our service. The sender is responsible for contacting the mail room staff and ensuring they contact the student. STORE NAME accepts no liability if the student does not pick up the order from the mail room

    Hotel Deliveries (Balloon Bouquet Delivery)

    For security reasons we are unable to deliver balloons directly to the room of a guest.

    All hotel deliveries for guests are left with the concierge, the front desk, bell desk, or the loading dock, depending on the hotel's policy.

    It is the customer's responsibility to contact the hotel and ensure that their order is delivered to the guest by the hotel. Once the balloons have been delivered to the hotel, STORE NAME considers the delivery successfully completed. Because several hotel staff members can get involved in transferring the balloons from one part of the hotel to another, we accept no responsibility for balloons damaged or misplaced during such transits.

    Customers should anticipate that the balloons may become tangled during this transit and be prepared to remove the balloons from their weight, untangle the ribbons, remove damaged balloons, arrange the remaining balloons, then re-attach the ribbons to the weight.

    The aforementioned policy DOES NOT apply to balloons being used for large special events. Please call STORE NAME for details

    Deliveries to Secure Locations (Balloon Bouquet Delivery)

    There are many corporate, research, and government organisations and departments with restricted access, where we must leave the balloons with a receptionist, mail clerk, or security staff.

    Some institutions security or reception staff are unable to accept deliveries.

    Please provide a work or mobile number for the recipient that will allow us to advise them that a delivery is waiting for pick-up. If we are unable to make phone contact with the recipient, we will leave the balloons with the proper authorities

    Please place your order with the understanding that once we have made the delivery to the required location in a restricted facility, completion of the delivery is the responsibility of the party accepting the order.

    Hospital Deliveries

    Hospital policies vary, and it may not be possible for us to make a delivery directly to the room of the patient.

    Many hospitals require that the balloons be dropped off at a security station, from which the balloons are delivered to the patient by the hospital staff.

    The staff may need to delay the delivery to the patient for any number of reasons. Please feel free to contact us, if you have a concern about the status of your order.

    Please place your order with the understanding that once we have made the delivery to the required location in a restricted facility, completion of the delivery is the responsibility of the party accepting the order.

    Patient Availability

    Our procedure is to contact the hospital prior to delivery and confirm that the recipient is still admitted and permitted to receive balloons. Customers will be contacted if the order cannot be delivered. At this point the order can be cancelled and refunded.

    If we are cleared by the hospital to proceed with the delivery, but the hospital refuses the delivery when we arrive, the order will be considered delivered and no refund will be issued. If the delivery can be made to an alternate address which is within our service area, an additional delivery charge may apply.

    If we are cleared by the hospital to proceed with the delivery, but the patient is subsequently discharged prior to our arrival, two options become available —

    1) The order can be delivered to another local address for an additional delivery charge, or

    2) The order cannot be delivered and must be cancelled. In this case, no refund will be issued

    Hospital Restrictions

    Latex balloons are banned from some hospitals due to latex allergy issues. Mylar (foil) balloons are usually acceptable. However, in some cases a particular patient may not be able to receive balloons of any type. Customers should contact the hospital for approval before sending balloons to a patient.

    Substitution Policy

    Balloons are at the heart of life's celebrations! They bring color, festivity and most of all Joy to every occasion. Part of their attraction is that they are delicate and have a limited life. So sometimes we may need to substitute some of your balloons for various reasons. If this is the case the following rules will apply.

    We will attempt to contact you. However if your delivery time is approaching we may substitute any balloon(s) in your order with regard to the foloowing rules:

    Latex Balloons

    Latex Balloons with same sentiment and character, may include variations of the graphics and text shown.

    Special Occassion Character 45cm Foil Balloons

    The substituted balloon will be the same sentiment (Happy Birthday, Get Well, etc) and a similar siz

    Licensed Character 45cm Foil Balloons

    The substituted balloon will be the same character and sentiment (Happy Birthday, Get Well, etc) and a similar size.

    Foil Shapes

    The substituted balloon will be the same sentiment (Happy Birthday, Get Well, etc) and a similar size.

    Cancellation and Change Deadlines

    Commencement time of inflation / construction of your order can vary, depending on the size of your order, delivery requirements and configuration, and the same considerations of other order requirements on the day.

    Therefore, if your do need to cancel, or change delivery requirements, contacting us the earlier the better.

    Less than 150 balloons.

    Orders can be cancelled up to the commencement of inflation / construction. Once the studio has commenced, the cost of any product utilisation will be deducted from any refund.

    More than 150 balloons.

    At least 3 working hours before commencement of inflation, as additional transport vehicle may have already been collected by our Balloon Angels.

    Costs of Cancelling Your Order

    Orders using stocked products

    full refund, less any cost for used product or transport costs.

    Orders with Specially Ordered Product.

    A full refund, less costs or charges from our suppliers eg restocking fees, or unreturnable product costs.
